Essential Skills for Cleaning Work

This pre-employment program focuses on communication, literacy and numeracy skills development contextualised for cleaning work. It is designed to address the needs of students at ACSF level 1 and below who are looking for jobs in the ever-expanding cleaning industry.
The program includes topics related to aspects of the cleaning job role and focuses on:
Workplace communication skills, such conversation and asking questions, following written and spoken instructions, understanding procedures, writing short, simple incident reports, filling in forms, and teamwork.
OHS and safe work practices, such as identifying hazards and removing/minimising risk, working with chemicals, PPE, cleaning and sanitising and COVID infection control requirements.
A range of contextualised numeracy activities such as rosters, measurement, estimation, and time.
Cleaning Premises and Equipment
This course is designed for people wanting to get a job as cleaners and need an introductory program familiarising themselves with the fundamentals of the job. Job seekers with ACSF 2 LLN levels may benefit from this course.
CALD students who have completed the Essential Skills for Cleaning course may pathway to this course to increase their chances of entry to the industry.
Topics include how to:
choose and set up the equipment and products you need for cleaning different areas
clean safely and efficiently
keep the cleaning equipment in good condition
store the cleaning equipment and products safely
use cleaning processes that reduce harm to the environment.
