National Science Week
National Science Week is an opportunity for everyone to talk science, see science and do science. National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology.
We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to safely participate in our digital world and no one should be left behind. It is an opportunity for the community to come together and learn about technology.
Get ready to dive into the future! Keysborough Learning Centre during National Science Week is thrilled to present a dynamic showcase of Robotics and 3D Printing, two cutting-edge technologies that are revolutionizing industries, education, and our everyday lives.
We are pleased to announce this exciting workshops: Firstly, we will discuss an introductory course on the fundamentals of robotics, and secondly, build and code a simple robot. Detailed information regarding these workshops is provided below:
Workshop 1: Robotics Workshop - 14 August, 2024 (10:00 AM to 12:30 PM)
Overview of Robotics
This workshop is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of robotics and how to do coding. We will begin with the basics and gradually progress to more complex tasks, ensuring a thorough grasp of the subjects.
Session 1: Basics of Robotics
Introduction to Robotic Components: Learn about the fundamental parts that make up a robot.
Understanding Sensors and Actuators: Discover how robots take input and interact with their environment.
Session 2: Basic Programming of Robotics
Basic Programming for Robotics: Discover how to make your robots do what you want by writing simple code using an iPad.
Testing the Robot: Program your robot and test its functionality.
Team Up: Work with friends or make new ones as you tackle exciting tasks together.

Workshop 2: 3D Design Workshop - (14/08/2024, 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM)
Overview of 3D Design
3D design involves creating three-dimensional digital models using specialized software like Blender or Tinkercad. It encompasses various modeling techniques such as extrusion, sculpting, and Boolean operations, along with an understanding of 3D printer hardware and filaments. Fundamental design principles like scale, proportion, and balance are essential to ensure aesthetic and functional models. Preparing and exporting files in formats like STL or OBJ, and using slicing software to generate G-code, are critical steps before printing. Mastering these basics enables the transformation of digital concepts into tangible creations.
